Introduction

The "International Workshop on Heavy Quark Physics" is a joint activity of the National Centre for Physics (NCP), Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad, and the Institute of High Energy Physics (IHEP), Beijing, China. We are pleased to announce the 5th workshop of this series, which will be held in the period December 11 - 15, 2023, at the NCP, Islamabad.

Precision heavy flavor physics, being carried out with the help of a number of experiments at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN and the high luminosity electron-positron colliders at KEK, and IHEP, will be the main focus of this workshop. Recent progress in the underlying theory will be reviewed, providing stringent tests of the standard model (SM) of particle physics and in searching for physics beyond the SM. The topics include, but are not limited to, the following: inclusive and exclusive heavy meson and baryon decays, higher-order quantum corrections, neutral meson mixing, CP violation, CKM matrix elements, heavy quark production, and physics of the multiquark states. In addition, selected aspects of the Quark-Gluon Plasma, being studied in heavy ion collisions will also be reviewed.

The research interest in heavy quark physics is grown progressively over the last few years in Pakistan and presently we have a sizable research community working at NCP and different universities of Pakistan. The purpose of this workshop is to encourage young Pakistani researchers and to facilitate them to build international collaborations. In this context, we plan to have 3/4 lectures on each of these topics. Detailed information can be found on the activity website: http://www.ncp.edu.pk/iwhqp-2021.php
